Located near the Greek village of Nemea in the Peloponnese, Ktima Papaioannou is a family-run winery founded in 1876, by the great-grandfather of the current owner, George Papaioannou. The company has achieved international fame thanks to the innovative philosophy of Thanasis, George's father, who introduced organic cultivation and decided to focus on native vines. The company which today covers about 57 hectares of organic vineyards, mainly cultivates Agiorgitiko, but also other Greek and international varieties such as Assyrtiko and Pinot Noir.
This wine from the Papaioannou estate is produced from Agiorgitiko grapes, an ancient Greek red berried variety capable of producing both young red wines with a lively character and more structured wines with good aging potential. The grapes come from old vines and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 20 months before being bottled. It then rests in the bottle for another year.
The Ktima Papaioannou Agiorgitiko has a brilliant ruby red color. Its aromatic profile is characterized by intense notes of red fruit, especially cherries and blackberries, followed by hints of aromatic herbs and spices. On the palate, it is fresh and lively with a good body, harmonious acidity, and velvety tannins. It is balanced and has a long, slightly spicy finish. It goes perfectly with Moussaka or Bolognese lasagna and with all grilled red meats.
They have a great selection of Georgian wines which is rare for Europe. Fast UPS shipping with delivery at your door.
