Illumina is a bold red blend, with sumptuous scents of blackberry jam, dark cherry, vanilla, coffee and warm cocoa. It is made from 67.5% Syrah and 32.5% Zinfandel, grown in the Okanagan Valley region of Canada. The grapes were picked just before the first frost of the year, allowing for maximum ripeness and a comforting character, packed with jammy fruits.

Sunrock Vineyards are the crown jewel of the Okanagan Valley, founded in 1999 and located on top of a sloping granite cliff with sandy soils. It is lead winemaker Dane Carson who turns the top-notch fruits that grow here into a gorgeous range of Canadian wine. Dane previously worked for the icewine powerhouse Inniskillen, as well as Jackson-Triggs, and is supported in his role by the renowned viticulturist Troy Osborne.

This Syrah-Zinfandel blend spent 16 months ageing in French and American oak barrels before release, which has imparted a smoky, oaky aspect. However, juicy black and red fruits lead the charge. You can find notes of blackberry, raspberry, and ripe dark cherry, complemented by delicious hints of cinnamon and vanilla. It is a delightfully smooth drinking experience, with fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity. Consider pairing Illumina with barbecued meats, lamb, or fruit-based sauce.
